About Henom

A marketplace built for makers

Henom is a dedicated online marketplace for handmade knitted and crocheted fabrics and articles. We connect independent creators, artisans, and sole proprietors with buyers who value handmade, original pieces. Every seller makes their own products, no factories, no mass production.

Escrow Payment Protection
Buyer payments held in a secure 14 day Hold Period. Funds release to the Seller only once the Buyer confirms delivery or the period expires with no dispute.
FICA Verified Sellers
All sellers complete FICA identity and bank verification before going live. Your funds go only to verified, real artisans with confirmed bank accounts.
Custom Order Requests
Buyers can request bespoke pieces from sellers, custom sizes, colours, yarns, and designs made specifically for them.
Africa First, Globally Accessible
Starting in South Africa, expanding across Africa. International buyers can purchase unique African handmade goods worldwide.

How it works

Simple for buyers, powerful for sellers

01
Sellers register & verify
Artisans create a store and complete FICA identity & bank verification before receiving payouts. Then list handmade pieces with photos, descriptions, and pricing.
02
Buyers discover & order
Buyers browse by category, fiber type, or origin and order securely. Payment is collected by our payment gateway provider and held in a secure central holding account of Henom.
03
14 day Hold Period begins
Buyer funds are held securely in escrow. Sellers cannot access funds until delivery is confirmed or 14 days pass with no dispute raised.
04
Seller ships directly
The seller packs and ships the item directly to the buyer. Tracking information must be uploaded to the platform within 24 hours of dispatch.
05
Funds released & paid out
Buyer confirms delivery, or 14 days pass with no dispute. Henom deducts its commission and disburses the balance to the Seller's FICA verified bank account.

Payments & Escrow

How money moves on Henom

Henom uses a secure delayed payout escrow system, to protect both buyers and sellers on every transaction.

Payment Collection Gateway
When a Buyer completes a purchase, funds are collected by the payment gateway and held in a secure central holding account. Funds are not immediately accessible to the Seller, they sit in escrow until the Hold Period completes.
The Hold Period 14 days
Funds are held until the Buyer confirms delivery, or 14 days pass from the purchase date, whichever comes first. During this window, Buyers can raise a dispute and Henom can reverse the transaction and refund the Buyer from the holding pool.
Commission Deduction
Before disbursing, Henom deducts its platform commission (varies by seller subscription tier, see henom.store/pricing) plus applicable Paystack transaction fees. Sellers receive a full itemised breakdown on every payout receipt.
Seller Payout Disbursements
Cleared funds are disbursed to Sellers' FICA verified bank accounts via batch EFTs on Henom's designated payout days. Settlement typically takes 1–3 business days after release.
Important: Once funds have been officially disbursed to the Seller, Henom cannot reverse the payment. Any refunds or returns after disbursement must be negotiated directly between Buyer and Seller. This is why the 14 day Hold Period exists, raise all issues before funds leave escrow.

Seller Verification

FICA compliant seller onboarding

All Sellers must complete identity and bank verification before receiving any payout, in compliance with the Financial Intelligence Centre Act 38 of 2001 (FICA).

Verification process

  • 1Seller registers on Henom with accurate personal and business details.
  • 2Seller submits a valid South African ID or passport along with bank account details.
  • 3Submitted information is securely processed through Henom’s verification system to confirm identity and banking details.
  • 4Upon successful verification, a secure reference ID is generated for the seller profile.
  • 5Henom stores only essential verification references required for operations. Sensitive identity documents and banking information are handled securely and are not exposed or stored unnecessarily on primary systems.

Why FICA verification?

The Financial Intelligence Centre Act 38 of 2001 (FICA) requires that financial platforms in South Africa verify the identity of parties involved in financial transactions. This helps protect buyers by ensuring they are dealing with real, traceable sellers and maintains the integrity of the marketplace.

Verification must be completed within 30 days of registration. Sellers who have not verified will have their listings deactivated and will not be eligible to receive payouts until verification is complete.

Sellers operating outside South Africa may be required to complete equivalent identity verification processes in line with applicable local regulations.

Your data is handled securely. Your South African ID, passport, and bank confirmation details are processed through secure verification systems in line with applicable data protection and security standards. Henom only stores essential verification references required for platform operations. Sensitive personal information is not unnecessarily stored or exposed on Henom’s primary systems.
